On September 8th 2020, Clayton Middle and High School enthusiastically welcomed back their students and staff for in person instruction. While not all students opted to return for in person instruction, that didn’t stop the celebration of returning to the building for the 2020–2021 school year. During the 2019–2020 school year, the district health and wellness team with the funding from the Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child School Health NJ Project, were able to purchase reusable water bottles for all 6th–12th students. These were used as the opening day welcome back gift to students. Due to COVID–19 restrictions, student are not permitted to bring in outside food or beverages. These bottles are instrumental this year for students to stay hydrated during the day and utilize the water filling stations located around the school building. “At the time of ordering these bottles for the following school year, we had no idea just how important and useful these would be for our students,” states Kate Hallinan, school counselor and WSCC team leader. “They really seemed to be a hit with our students.”
