Frank J. Cicarell Academy (FJCA) held a Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Day for their students on April 8th, 2024. This day-long event included various activities like creating motivational posters for hallways and cards with positive messages to be put on every locker. Motivational and wellness sayings were posted on windows and walls throughout the building to help create a warm and inviting environment for students and staff.

As part of FJCA’s SEL Day, Empower Somerset coordinated with Joetta (Clark-Diggs), a product of New Jersey and a four-time Olympian, to meet with the school’s sophomore and junior classes during their second and third period. Joetta spoke with the students about the 4 P’s: The Principles for Success and referenced her and her family’s stellar track and field career to empower students to finish the school year strong. Her meeting with the students was compelling; students were drawn to her magnetic and energetic personality and connected with her life story and experience.
